CarrierSource is a website that allows for shipping carriers to be reviewed, prospected, and validated by brokers, closing the gap between brokers and carriers in the shipping space. This project was a unique one because the initial front-fracing UI had be set for CarrierSource already by another designer; I had the opportunity to pick up where they left off and design about 20 screens which were all meant to convey a lot of information: carrier information, carrier reviews, broker and carrier user profiles, and other data-centric designs intended for the administration side of the website.
With any project who’s user-interface (UI) is meant to convey a lot of information on the same screen, the primary goal was to do this as intuitively as possible. In this way the admin of the site could easily navigate brokers and their information, carriers and their information and manage reviews left on the site. This sort of user-first approach in an admin setting would allow for the website to be easily navigable and less intimidating visually, ultimatley leading to more effective administration of the website. Additionally, the second major goal of this project was to design these data-heavy screens in a way that ensured alignment with the branding look/feel that was landed on by the previous designer that had worked with the client.
Overall, this project accomplished both major goals that were established prior. Through use of strict color and font hierarchy, implementation of slightly softened corners, and intentional usage of negative space, I was able to land on data-heavy screens that were still approachable and digestable at a glance. Furthermore I was able to do this with the previous look and feel set forth by the client and a previous designer to ensure a continuous and intentional brand.
